At the bench
Carbide tools scrape, and that makes them easy to learn. You hold the tool flat on the rest and level with the center, then push in. There is no bevel to ride and no grinder to buy. When an edge dulls, loosen the screw and rotate the cutter to a fresh side. The stainless shafts resist flex over the rest. After turning, the sander smooths the inside of a bowl while the lathe spins.

Limits
Pick another one if
A scraped surface is rougher than one cut with a sharp gouge. Plan on sanding. The set is also the most expensive item in our catalog, and a turner who already owns tools may only want the sander. We sell that on its own, with a 3 in pad and 75 discs.

Quality lathe tools at a fantastic price
I have numerous lathe tools. However, until I bought these I did not have any carbide tools. While I like my standard steel lathe tools, sharpening them is a pain. With carbide, when the wear out you simply rotate the blade and keep going. Eventually they will need replacement but replacement blades are inexpensive. Did I mention that I love these tools for making pens? For what I paid for these tools, my local woodworking tool store should be embarrassed for what they charge for lathe tools.
Quality Product
For the price these are very well made wood turning tools. The cutters are very sharp, which cut very cleanly. It is nice that you can extend the handle for deeper cuts in vessels. Comes with a very nice carrying case to keep all the tools secure from damage. I have been turning for about thirty years and still use my traditional wood turning tools, but these new ones really help in some of my turnings.
Not the best not the worst.
They work the quality is not the best. They are sharp out of the box but do not stay sharp long. The screws that hold them in come out and it would be better if they came with thumb screws which I purchased separately.
Love these tools
. After a year of bowl turning, I took a chance on using these scraper tools. The control and finish are amazing. I still use the gouge for starting out on really rough wood...but found these to be best for the rest of the turns.
