At the bench
A pull saw cuts as you draw it toward you, so the blade stays in tension and can be thin. That gives a narrow kerf and a cut that starts where you put it. At 6 in, this blade is short enough to control with one hand. Lay it flat on a board to trim a dowel flush. Stand it up to cut a tenon shoulder or a small dovetail. The beech handle has a slight curve.
Check before you buy
- Your cuts are small: dowels, trim, joinery.
- You are ready to cut on the pull stroke with light pressure.
- For boards and longer cuts, compare the 10 in saw.
Limits
Pick another one if
It is our most-rated tool, and it is also a small one. A 6 in blade makes slow work of a 2x4, and the 10 in saw is the better pick for boards. The teeth are hardened, which means they stay sharp longer and cannot be filed. When the blade dulls, the saw is done.

Product as described.
No issues. Product as described. I love using Japanese hand saws sometimes when I need something small and quick and can't be fussed to get out something motorized. This isn't the best one I've ever had but it's certainly the most affordable. Cuts straight, has double sides for rip and cross cuts. It's also flexible and compact, which can be handy. Great value for the money.
Handy and powerful!
I actually really like this saw. I didn't want to spend a bunch of money on a power tool and have to take up space storing one so I got this. The design makes it easy to make straight cuts, it's perfectly sharp, small, perfect.
Perfect Japanese saw for small wood projects
Good for work with fine cabinet work. This is not large saw but compact one for small project. I used this for barn boos refinish and wood plug cutting. Cheap cut as I expected. I really love this product
Love this Japanese saw
Love it. I'm old and not very strong and I cut wood easily with this. Sharp, so fait attention.
Questions
6 Inch Ryoba Saw: answers
Which side do I use?
Use the 17 TPI edge for hardwood and fine cuts, and the 14 TPI edge for softwood and faster cuts.
Can it cut flush without scratching?
The blade flexes flat against the work. Keep it flat and pull gently, since the teeth have a slight set.
Can I sharpen it?
No. The teeth are hardened to HRC 60 to 63, which is harder than a saw file.
